Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while walking along the beach in Nags Head, NC with my family.

Time

My mom and I walked along taking pictures while my two children wandered around looking for shells or anything else interesting they could find. It was the early evening and we were heading back to the hotel before it got too dark. I saw this boat sitting on the dune and thought it would make an interesting photo.

Lighting

I just enjoyed the way the light was coming from over the dunes. It's hard to tell in this because I made it black and white.

Equipment

This was taken with a Nikon D3200.

Inspiration

I just thought that the boat sitting on the dune would make for an interesting photo. I didn't expect it to really come out the way it did.

Editing

I didn't do very much post-processing with this photo. I did change it to a black and white photo and adjusted the contrast a little.

In my camera bag

I only have one camera - Nikon D3200, but I have 2 lenses. I carry my shorter lens which is a Nikon, and my zoom lens, which is a Sigma.

Feedback

The only advice I can give is to just keep your eye out for something that interests you. I have a lot of "candid" shots that turn out pretty well. I'm still learning everything my camera can do and I've had it for years. I often take several shots of the same subject from different angles. You just never know what you're going to catch and how it's going to turn out.
