Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my garden in the UK. The subject is my brothers one year old cat Salem.

Time

The image was taken early evening around 19.30. The two cats like to wander around the farm fields at the back of the garden, but often come back around this time looking for their tea or just to hang out.

Lighting

No special lighting equipment was used just natural lighting, however the evening was a little overcast (welcome to summer in the Uk) so this softened the light.

Equipment

This was shot using a Panasonic DMC-TZ10, no other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I'm new to photography and the two cats were just hanging out in the garden playing together, and they seemed like a good subject to practice on. Even though I've had this camera for a while, I have mostly used it as a point and shoot to capture memories more than anything else. However this time I wanted to get something other than just documenting the pets getting older. The other cat was off camera and Salem was just peering over at him getting ready to continue the pounce and play.

Editing

I believe the only post process was an auto adjust edit, however the image was shot using the film grain scene mode on the camera. I feel this gives a little texture to the image.

In my camera bag

I have just started to take my camera with me wherever I go, and as it's a compact it's the only thing I bring.

Feedback

Being relatively new to this I feel any technical advice is beyond me, but I would advise patience and taking as many photos as possible. The beauty of digital is you can delete the ones you don't like and you've not wasted anything. Also sometimes luck will play it's part when you just happen to be in the right spot at the right time for everything to work.
