Behind The Lens

Location

We had just picked up Paddy from a family who were moving and they couldn't take her with them so we adopted her. Paddy is a 5 year old German Wire Haired Pointer.

Time

I had just been outside playing with my camera. I came and sat down for a coffee and Paddy was watching me. I hadnt even changed the setting from being outside to inside hence the dark moodiness.

Lighting

Sometimes mistakes make the best photos and I love this one of our dog. It was early evening and the lights were on inside but not as bright as it had been outside.

Equipment

I have a Canon 60D that is about 5 years old. I used an 18-200 lens and it was hand held. Aperture of 5 with a 3200 ISO.

Inspiration

I wanted a photo of her when we first got her to send to her previous owners. This is one of my favourite photos of her. I enjoy taking close-up photos and this one just presented itself and I took the opportunity.

Editing

Post-processing was only a slight adjustment of light. I have kept it as original as I could.

In my camera bag

In my bag is a 100mm macro, 50 mm lenses as well as the sunglasses for my lenses which I use in the bright sunlight - especially when we lived in Malaysia. I also have my tripod base as well as lens wipes and various pens, coins, lip gloss as well as a packet of ginger sweets.

Feedback

My advice is to make the most of the opportunities as they arise. My camera is very close to me when we are travelling in the car. My husband and I have a private competition during each trip where we stop after a given time and step out of the car and take a photo. Often it is of the same thing but we very often get different perspectives. Get out there and enjoy and play and play.
