Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while on a camping trip with my 7 year old daughter, my brother, and sister. We were just outside of Waterton Park in southern Alberta, Canada.

Time

It was about midnight when I took this shot. My daughter wanted to stay up and shoot with me.

Lighting

I had played around withe the level of the fire for a while before I finally got it to what I felt was just right, so that it created the perfect amount of glow on the trees and lit up the campsite.

Equipment

I shot this on my Canon T5 Rebel with a 18-55mm lens, set up on a tripod to keep it steady during the long exposure.

Inspiration

I try to shoot things that "speak" to me. I like my photos to trigger an emotional response and I think that a lot of people are able to relate to sitting around the campfire on a warm summer night.

Editing

I haven't gotten into to much post-processing yet. It's something that I have started playing around with a bit in the last couple of weeks. So this photo is exactly what I was able to capture with my Camara.

In my camera bag

My bag is pretty simple right now. I carry my Canon T5, a tripod, an assortment of filters and an extra battery.

Feedback

My advice for other photographers would be to look for the moments that cause a reaction in your soul. Those are the moments that you want to capture. Try different exposures, try to have fun while out on your shoots. I read somewhere that there can not be any stress while taking pictures. It's art, there is no right or wrong, there is only how it makes you feel.
