Behind The Lens

Location

I've taken this photo in Polish mountains in small village called Zieleniec, which would mean something like "Greenplace" in English. I was standing in pajamas in front of open window at the top of the building, breathing cold winter air, but I didn't even notice this, because of so amazing view. It was unforgetable experience :)

Time

It was early in the morning, because when I sleep in new places, I always wake up early and so did I this time. I didn't had any alarm clock and I must say that this photo wasn't planned at all.

Lighting

I think that this photo is all about lightning. It's the main subject here and I had a lot luck with it. Sun after sunrise was shinning between clouds, but not visible, giving this yellowish tint highly contrasting with other parts of sky.

Equipment

I used Olympus E-PL7 camera and Zenit 44-2 58mm f:2 with adapter. I didn't remember my f stop, because everything was manual and luckly I didn't get any flare, despite this lens has no coating. All equipment used to create this photo was cheaper than 500$ and the lens was free for me, because it was used before by my grandfather and father and it has great story.

Inspiration

Basicly, I woke up early in the morning, looked through the window facing west and instantly thought that sunrise must be impresive. That motivated me to pick up my camera and go upstairs. My timing was perfect, because this beautiful lightning lasted only for few minutes.

Editing

I made only minor clarity and color tweaks. Not much posprocessing here at all.

In my camera bag

The first thing that I pack is obviously my one and only camera - Olympus E-PL7. It's not the best from all, but still features 16 megapixsels of sharpness, especially with Lumix G 20/1.7 and this combo fits in pocket, so I can carry my camera everywhere... But when I have my camera backpack I also pack two vintage M42 lenses: portrait Helios 44-2 and huge telephoto Jupiter 21M. Of course I don't forget about variable ND, lens cleaning set, spare battery, usb charger, powerbank and bunch of other stuff.

Feedback

I think that to take great landscape shot timing is the most important thing, because, every place can look pretty, but with perfect light it looks beautiful and this perfect light is rare and lasts only for minutes, so you have to be patient or lucky.
