Behind The Lens

Location

I was a one day visitor to San Francisco. I wondered all around the bridge until I hit Long Ave and got a good vantage point.

Time

It was midmorning when we wondered onto Long Ave, which ran along the water. The clouds had finally parted just enough to see the bridge. I cant express how happy I was. I was afraid I would miss the bridge altogether due to the cloud cover.

Lighting

With the cloud cover (which I learned after the trip is quite normal,) I was afraid I wouldnt be able to get enough exposure for a good shoot. As the clouds started to lift though, the sunlight began to shine through. Not so much that the bridge was over exposed, but enough to add a beautiful glow to the entire scene.

Equipment

This, and all of my shots, are shot on a Cannon Rebel T3i with a standard 18-55 mm lense. Its currently all I own, but its one of my best friend.

Inspiration

I had already snapped a few shots of the bridge throughout the morning, mostly cloudy shots. But I couldnt pass up the oppurtunity to get this shot. The large slightly rusted industial chain paired with the water and one of the worlds industrial marvels was mezmorizing.

Editing

After each of my shots I run the photo through Lightroom. I try not to alter the photo too much, but just enough to make the picture reflect the beauty I see. Often some of the wonder is lost in the lighting, or the lack of color in an object. All I do is bring it back into the photo with some small adjustments.

In my camera bag

As an amateur photographer, I only own my Cannon T3i. But my bag is also full of nessesities. Extra batteries, memory cards, a cleaning cloth and tissues. Squinting with one eye consistantly can make you a bit teary.

Feedback

Landmarks are photographed continually. Look up any one of them and you will see hundreds of similar photos. My suggestion for shooting landmarks is to take your time. Walk around a bit, explore the different angles and backrounds. Eventually you run across a point of view that takes your breath away or makes you do a double take.
