Location
This photo was taken at one of my favorite local session locations! We were right in the opening of a gorgeous pathway on the Canal Trail in Weldon, NC!Time
This day was so much fun! My sister-in-law met me with her 3 year old son to capture some summer memories - I'm THRILLED with this image and am so happy to have documented such a sweet moment for them! This was taken right around 1:45 in the afternoon on a gorgeous June day!Lighting
I wanted this image to be simple and natural so my nephew's personality is the biggest focus. He is so expressive in a subtle way and I wanted that to be seen! We stood under the shade of the trees and used a gold reflector to shower beautiful natural light over him.Equipment
This image was captured on a Canon 60D with my nifty fifty lens!Inspiration
My inspiration for this photo came from witnessing sheer excitement and joy about SUMMER! All kids look forward to summer... and who can blame them? No school, warm weather, swimming and vacation, relaxation and fun! I just wanted to capture this feeling. :)Editing
Post-processing on this image was quite light as there wasn't much I needed to do to perfect this image. I added some contrast to bring more attention to my nephew, darkened the background a bit, added a matte action I created to fit my style, then added the butterfly and cropped the image to create an extra sense of wonder. In my camera bag
My camera bag always consists of my Canon 60D and, of course, my 50mm 1.8 prime lens! In addition, my bag also usually houses my 5-in-1 reflector, flash and pop-up ring light diffuser, and macro extension tube.Feedback
When shooting during the harsh daylight hours (sun overhead) shade is your best friend! Finding a location with plenty of shade and placing your subject(s) in it is an important step to assure that you don't have blown out highlights or deep shadows! When shooting, give direction but also try to make it easy for your subject(s) to be themselves - and don't be afraid to let your imagination and emotions take your image somewhere new.
