Location
I took this photo in my bathroom of all places! The granite counter top created a reflection beyond anything I could have imagined. I chose the location because the distance between the subject, background and camera was perfect for the shot I was envisioning.Time
I took this photo in the late afternoon, right as the sun starts to shine into the glass block window. At this point in the day, I needed a break from work and some inspiration as well.Lighting
The natural light is coming in through the glass block window in my bathroom, so its not too harsh or too soft.Equipment
I took this photo with my Nikon D3300 with a 18-55mm lens.Inspiration
Around that time, I had been viewing my wedding photos and admiring my wedding photographer's eye for the 'detail' shots. The shots she took of the simple things were by far my favorite i.e. the ring, my jewelry, decor etc. I really enjoy shooting objects and thought my wedding ring would be a great subject to shoot.Editing
I didn't use a B&W preset on my camera, so the only processing I did was to apply that.In my camera bag
I'm a novice, hobby photographer, so my bag is pretty light. I always carry my two lenses:a 18-55 mm Nikon and a 70-300mm Tamron Tele-Macro lens.Feedback
For this photo, I played around with my focal length a lot. I had to find a happy-medium because I didn't have much space behind me to adjust my distance from the subject, so I took several shots to find the best focal length (55mm). I wanted to photo to be crisp, but when shooting a ring at this angle, one can easily focus on the background through the opening if not careful.
