Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at a friends house in Port Clinton Ohio we were invited for a BBQ.

Time

We were doing a cookout for dinner and we had some Potato Chips and a couple of other food items in the car As I was going along the back side of his home I saw the bed of flowers. Just then I had a phone call from one of my children. I had to stop my power wheelchair to take the phone out of my pocket. As we talked I fell in love with these pink flowers. I had to position my wheelchair so I could take my shots. I was very happy that I could capture the beauty of these flowers. It was 5:50 pm and the shade had crept on to the flowers but they were still bright and waiting for me.

Lighting

The flowers were in a light shaded area along the side of the house. They were still bright but the glare of the afternoon sun was not directly on them. This photo was taken on July 16 2016. The days were long then that's why the shady side of the house was still bright and not the dark contrast you have on the shorter days. I had the camera set to auto iso. so this was shot at iso 250 f 5.6 and150 mm. This was the second shot out of 9. I guess I was hungry!

Equipment

On this visit I left the Mono pod at home. This was shot with a Olympus OMD-EM5 MARK II Micro 4/3. The lens used is a Olympus 14-150 4.0 5.6. This was hand held.

Inspiration

There flower garden was just beautiful and it just inspired me to try to capture the beauty that I was seeing. If it was not for the phone call I probably would have rode right by the garden and not really looked at what I was seeing at the time.

Editing

I use Windows 10 and not the Olympus software. I shoot in J PEG so this photo was cropped once then as I was studying the photo I cropped it just a little tighter and enhanced it a little.

In my camera bag

In my camera bag I have a Olympus lens 300 to 600mm f 4.8 to 6.7 which I have just purchased .Also a Olympus 42mm 1.8 prime lens. The very small flash that came with the camera. I use a VELLO shutter release with a remote trigger. This works well on the Mono pod as I run around in my wheelchair.

Feedback

Since I don't walk well and have to use a wheelchair it has taught me to slow down and really see what I am going to take pictures of. I can't go to a lot of places that I would like to. so I try to study my shots and picture it in the viewfinder or the back live screen on the camera. With still life items I view it from different angle the best that I can. I take several shots with different aperture, iso, and shutter speeds trying to capture what I am seeing. Sometimes I have more than one angle that I like and that is absolutely the way I like it.
