Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Lake Merritt, Oakland, about a mile from my house.

Time

I shot this early in the morning to catch long shadows and a warm sun.

Lighting

This photo is yet another example of early morning light. Almost always a winning situation if you can find the right angle and subject.

Equipment

I shot it hand-held with my camera at the time, a Canon T3i, and a Sigma 18-250 zoom. I was on the longer end of the lens.

Inspiration

I was looking for that early morning light with mist rising off the lake, and found it.

Editing

In post I emphasized the detail of the ancient tree, and also emphasized the soft focus of the mist, grass, and dog walker.

In my camera bag

These days I carry a Canon T6i, Sigma 18-250, and Canon 10-18 and a small, light, inexpensive tripod.

Feedback

Practice as often as possible. Once the bug bites you, you have no choice....
