Behind The Lens

Location

West Milton, Ohio. Privet property. Local hidden gem. West Milton Cascades.

Time

8PM in mid July. About an hour and a half before sunset

Lighting

With the sun late in the day, I avoided direct sunlight. That led to a smooth white for the water, and plenty of light for details of objects.

Equipment

Shot with my Nikon P510 and my tripod. 1/3 expo, 66/10 ap, 100ISO

Inspiration

It's a nice little hidden gem. Peaceful, calm, and relaxing. With my feet in the water, I feel connected to the earth. As water flows, so does time. I really wanted to try and capture that feeling.

Editing

No edit, processing, or filters on this one.

In my camera bag

I usually have one of my cameras (if not both), a tripod, extra batteries, extra SD Cards, and beef jerky. I get hungry while adventuring.

Feedback

My best advice is to just get outside, and shoot, shoot, shoot. You're not going to find beautiful, or epic things by sitting on your couch. When photographing water, I find the less direct light the better. That way things don't get washed out. Especially while shooting long exposure. Early day, or later evening work out best for me. Just play around and find out what works best for you. You'll not only end up with amazing photos, but you'll have a great time in the process.
