Behind The Lens

Location

My girlfriend and I stumbled across this gem while out looking for adventure and some Pioneer Cemeteries. Don't quote me on this, but I think this photo was taken at: Whitcomb Creek Park Quartzville Road Green Peter Lake Sweet Home/Foster, Oregon

Time

If I recall correctly, it was mid to late afternoon, in early spring of 2016. We'd been driving and taking pictures all day, but this was easily our best find of the trip. I was lucky enough to get several wonderful photographs while we were there.

Lighting

I'm a rank amateur, with no real concept of how to use lighting to my advantage. I'm looking to change that, as well as improving my equipment.

Equipment

A 3 year old Galaxy Note 2, on the most basic of settings. Like I said, I'm a complete amateur, even if I feel I have a good eye for photogenic scenes. I'm upgrading my phone to something cutting edge very soon, but a really good DSLR is still many months away for me at this point.

Inspiration

This place was completely deserted and uniquely beautiful. I couldn't NOT take a bunch of photographs. Unfortunately, with little technical skill, and a 3 year old phone camera, I was only able to get a handful of truly good quality photos out of the 80 or so I took that afternoon.

Editing

Even if I knew how to do that, I wouldn't. I personally don't care for images that have been altered in any way, and I don't plan to ever alter any of mine.

In my camera bag

Two phones, an ancient digital camera, binoculars, and I just recently got a flexible tripod I have yet to try out. Eventually, I hope to have a good bag with some quality equipment, and the knowledge to use it better.

Feedback

I've learned quite a bit since discovering this site a month or so ago, but as much as I love it, I'm still ridiculously naive and amateurish when it comes to the technical skills involved in taking good photographs. Thankfully, this setting was begging to be preserved, and just about anyone probably could have gotten dozens of amazing shots.
