Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the Numbi road at the kruger national park.

Time

i used to live about an hour away from the kruger park and every time i had a day off i would try and beat the sun to the kruger. This was always a litte difficult for me as i am not a morning person and with the kruger park being right on the east of south africa it would require me getting there by 5am at certain times of the year. I took this photo on a very special morning where i finally managed to beat the sun. i arrived at numbi gate while it was still dark and as i travelled the numbi road the sun started to rise infront of me allowing me to get this beautiful tree silhouette in the golden glow of the sunrise.

Lighting

i have always found it a bit tough to get the right exposure but since this was a quiet day in the park i had a bit of time to play with my settings to get a nice dark silhouette while the sun played its part in emitting beautiful golden light.

Equipment

i used a canon 7D, with a standard canon 18-55mm lens. no tripod or flash was necessary here.

Inspiration

i have always wanted to take a silhouette image i could be proud of and there is just something special about an african tree that made this a gorgeous shot for me.

Editing

yes, i enhanced the contrast slightly. i am not much of a photoshop boffin as of yet so minor enhances is about the just of what i can do.

In my camera bag

i have a canon 7D, a canon 50D, a standard canon 18-55mm, a sigma 50-500mm lens, a sigma 70-300mm lens, a canon 10-22mm wide angle lens, a canon fixed aperture 50mm f1.8 lens, my flas and my camera remote.

Feedback

patience is a virtue, play with settings until you get the image you want. find the perfect angle, dont settle for the first angle you stumbled upon
