Location
This photo was taking at Tomales Bay, Ca. I had seen some pics of the "O'l Gal" a couple other times and was determined to find and photograph her. My wife and I were on our way from San Francisco to Ft. Bragg Ca. . the drive was somewhat out of our way to get to her, but well worth it. So much beauty along the way. As we were heading into Inverness, Ca., I was keeping my eyes peeled for any sight of her when all of a sudden as we driving into the small town, I caught a glimpse of something between and behind 2 buildings. I braked and backed up and low and behold, behind this one piece of property and behind some fencing, I saw the top of the cabin. We pulled into a sand/muddy lot and there were signs along the fence asking anyone who should wish to enter and view, to please tread lightly. So we did and I was so happy to have found her. I figured she would be beached in more of an open and public area.Time
The time of day was mid afternoon. I would say around 1:00 pm. I was so excited to have found her, that I really didn't notice the time. I just grabbed my gear and made my way through the property so I could set up, get my shots and then get back on the road. We still had a long way to go to get to Ft. Bragg.Lighting
The day was a partly cloudy day and a bit windy. But I think it all added some good lighting as to how my photo turned out. I remember only having to slightly adjust the aperture a bit. But overall, the natural sunlight of the day was coming from behind me and it seemed to work out fineEquipment
This pic was taken with my Nikon D7100. Lens Sigma 17-50 mm 1:2.8 EX HSM. Neewer graphite tripod and a wired shutter release.Inspiration
I had seen this wreck in photos before on a Bay Area photography Facebook page. I then researched wear abouts it was located and told my wife that on our next trip, I wanted to search for it and get MY photo of her. And we did!Editing
Some sharpening, as it was a windy day. You can see a bit of blur in the photo from the wind blowing my tripod. Also worked on the colors a bit to make them pop a bit more, as the partly cloudy day had not made the colors define so much. I wanted to highlight the wear and tear and also the blue in the visor on top of the cabin. I used my Adobe Creative Cloud. In my camera bag
My camera, extra batteries, usually at least 3 lenses (zoom, wide angle, and my 35 mm fixed) . Cleaning utensils, filters, note pad, wireless remote and wired release. Tripod, rain covers, straps. All depends on which bag I am carrying with me and what my expecting travel (hiking, distance to cover, ease of access, etc.)Feedback
Only advice from me for anyone is that if you have a dream to capture any one thing with your camera, then go for it and enjoy the search. you will surely be happy you did. i got many other pics along this trip. I wish I had more time to get out and do it more often. Maybe when I retire!
