Location
This blueberry image was taken at my home. I had been wanting to try some macro photography for a while so one rainy day I raided the fridge and came across these blueberries. I set up a table and placed a bowl on it, filled it with the blueberries.Time
The image was taken mid morning after I had set up.Lighting
I didn’t have any special lighting kits so used natural light from a window.Equipment
This image was taken on a Nikon D600 (which in my option is still a fantastic camera). I used a cheap secondhand sigma 50mm 1:2.8 EX lens which I got off the internet And still us today. No flash was needed, lastly a tripod to steady everything. To give it a extra dimension I sprayed the berries with water.Inspiration
I’d been wanting to try some macro photography for a while and got inspired by other photos on ViewBug. One rainy day I raided the fridge and came across these blueberries. I set up a table near a window, filled a small bowl with the blueberries and this was the result.Editing
I used Lightroom to adjust the exposure a little, a tweak of vibrancy and a tiny amount of sharpening. Finally I cropped tighter in on the berries and that was it, all done in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I bought a Nikon D600 because I knew I could not afford the expensive new lenses and I could buy relatively cheap secondhand glass that would fit . Eventually I could afford newer but still modest lenses and I currently own - Sigma 50mm 1:2.8 EX, Nikkor 70-210mm 1:4-5.6, Nikkor AF 50mm 1:1.8G, Nikkor AF-S 24-120 1:4G ED VR, Sigma 150-600mm 1:5-6.3 DG Contemporary. Other things in my bag are grad and hard filter sets from SRB and usual pen lens cleaners and polarised filters. I carry it all in a Case Logic photography bag.Feedback
There are so many things just lying around the house that make great macro images. Set up a basic tripod over head rig and using natural light from a window you will be surprised at what’s possible, and give it a go. Once you zoom in on objects they transform into something magical.
