Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Svinafellsjökull, Iceland. We were on our honeymoon and driving towards some ice caves and just happened to see a little bit of the blue of the glacier. We were early so decided to drove down the road and this is what we found! One of the best parts of our trip.

Time

This was early morning, about 6:30.

Lighting

I got very lucky with the early light. Normally the sunrises in the southern part of iceland are spectacular. But this morning it was very overcast and the sun stayed hidden. It turned out it was perfect to showcase the vivid blue of the glacier.

Equipment

This was taken on a Samsung EK-GC200. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

My husband and I love adventure traveling. Most of the pictures I take are for my family who have adventurous spirits but don't do a lot of international travel. It let's them see the world with me.

Editing

I didn't do any post-processing with this photo.

In my camera bag

The camera bag I take with me on my travels is fairly small. I like to being along my Nikon point and shoot with a 38x zoom. For closer shooting and/or action shots I also have a Nikon D50 with an AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:35-56G ED and AF-S Nikkor 70-300mm 1:4.5-5.6 ED VR. And lots of batteries!

Feedback

I think of myself more as an amateur adventure photographer rather than a landscape photographer. The best advice I could give is to just pick up a camera and start taking pictures. Look for color, shapes, contrast. Any kind of unique perspective or vantage that gives it a little extra something. And most of all, have fun and take the pictures that make you smile.
