I took this photo in my house while experimenting with the uses of black and white photography. I haven't been taking pictures for very long, but I think this is one of my best and favorite photos.Time
It was early in the morning on a day I had set aside to take photos. I loved the way the early morning light was falling on my cat, George, and thought he was the perfect subject to start the shooting day off with. It was early on April 26, 2016 that I captured this photo.Lighting
I wanted this photo to capture all it could with the light available. The natural lighting gave the perfect opportunity to really get all the tones between black and true white. I really wanted to draw the viewer's attention to the eyes and I think the way the light reflects in his eyes really accomplishes this.Equipment
This picture was shot with a Nikon D3300 at a 1/40 shudder speed and a 4.2 aperture.Inspiration
With this picture, I just happened to be in the right place at the right moment. My cat was casually laying on a chair in my house while I was preparing my equipment for shooting. I had just grabbed my camera at the time when my cat looked up at me. I was able to take this shot just before he ran away.Editing
I prefer to do as minimal post-processing as I can because I prefer to leave the subject as natural as possible. With this photo, the only post-processing affect I did was cropping in a little to secure the rule of thirds. In my camera bag
I am a relatively new photographer and only have one digital camera, my Nikon D3300. With this I have a tripod and several macro extensions. I also have a wide-angle lens. I really love this camera because it captures great quality in each photo I take while also being relatively small and great for all occasions. It is really durable and able to adapt with all kinds of accessories.Feedback
While taking pictures of domestic animals, be prepared to move. They don't know what a camera is and will run away from it if you get too close. You need to be able to take a picture on the fly and follow them into their own environment - wherever that may be. It can be fun while shooting to capture each animal's individual quirks, and satisfying to see the final product of your photo.
