Behind The Lens

Location

When a new table top lightbox arrived it opened up a lot of new ideas and possibilities. This was taken on the kitchen table.

Time

As it was a lightbox, I didn't have to worry too much about the time of day but it was taken in the early evening.

Lighting

The lighting was the 2 table top lights that came as part of the portable set up. Using the orange tissue paper brightened the composition straight away and gave it a warmth with the lights on

Equipment

This was taken using a Canon EOS M, 18-55mm lens, tripod and remote

Inspiration

I saw the 80's & 90's challenge and knew I had to enter. When we got married, we decided to have disposable cameras and hunted all over the internet to get Kodak ones as we had both used Kodak cameras when we were kids in the 80's. After trying a few different angles I knew it needed something underneath and that's where the cassette came in. When thinking about the background I chose an orange and tried a red tissue paper as they were the Kodak colours

Editing

I cropped it in a little bit to reduce the background and used a vibrancy for the colour through the view finder and the Kodak logo

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon EOS M with me but I also use a Canon 1100D with 18-200 F3.5-6.3. Anytime the 1100 comes out with me it is generally a planned shoot so I take a tripod and remote with me. I also have a bag at home where my husband and I store lenses and filter that we share between us. The kitchen table has been taken over by the portable lightbox. I then use Aperture for post production.

Feedback

Experiment, experiment, experiment! I had great fun with tapes, the disposable camera and undeveloped camera rolls as well as many different colours of tissue paper. I also took later pictures of these same items with no dust on them and it didn't give the same effect or texture so don't worry too much about things being perfect.
