Location
I took this photo at the tiny seaside fishing spot of Poona Qld. I am a self-taught photographer of almost 60 years.Time
This is one of my favourite photos. I was holidaying at this beach and a fisherman friend who got up every day before the sun said that I should get up the next day because the sunrise was stunning, so this is what I grudgingly did, and once I was there watching the colours appear as the sun rose, I knew I was definitely happy that I'd pushed myself to do it.Lighting
I had forgotten to pack my tripod, so this was hand held, and Mother Nature did the lighting for me. As the sky started to colour and then as the sun appeared until the colour finished must have been at least an hour, and I took hundreds of shots, but this is still my favourite.Equipment
No tripod, no flash, and at the time I used an old Sony A200 DSLR which is still a camera I pick up from time to time. I had a Tamron lens 18mm-270mm, a great travel lens that saved a lot of time changing lenses and risking dust spots. It's still a lens I love but unfortunately doesn't work with my new cameras.Inspiration
My fisherman friend inspired me to take this photo. I am not an early riser by choice, but my friend, knowing what a passionate photographer I am, said that I had to get up early the next morning because the sunsets were amazing, so my husband woke me and said it was time to get up, and I rolled over, changed my mind, but he insisted I did, and wow, I was so pleased that he pushed me out of bed to do this.Editing
This one has very little post processing. I had only taken a single shot, but I did run it through AuroraHDR 2019 and made subtle little changes, then in Luminar 4 I erased and few little bits of straggly branches that were in the view, but really this is almost as it came out of the camera. In my camera bag
I carry 3 cameras, all Sony, one DSLR, an RX10 lll and an A7 lll FF Mirrorless, and a few lenses and the usual memory cards and batteries and charging leads.Feedback
Take a tripod (I really missed mine) and before posting, make sure the horizon is level. I see so many beautiful photos but so many photographers don't notice that the horizon is not perfectly straight. And don't rush the shot. Detail to composition is so important; with some people, this comes naturally, and with others it has to be learnt. And most of all, enjoy every minute of it.
