Lava rock leaves a mark.. not only does it destroy what is in its path, but it leaves a design of its flow. This is called the rope flow. This photo was taken on the Big Island in Hawaii at Kalapana (Pahoa) in the Puna district, which is another "black beach" after the lava left only black rock and sand in its wake.
