Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken inside of an old abandoned post office.

Time

It was around 4pm when we took this picture.

Lighting

I chose to take this picture around the middle of the day so I could get a strong glow from behind the subject through the window, but not too strong like it could have been earlier in the morning.

Equipment

I used the Canon eos 70D with a kit 18-135mm lens

Inspiration

Definitely the big window. I always look for big windows, or ipen areas to get some unique light onto or to compliment my subject. The windows is such a beautiful big area that allows light into the building and past the subject into the lens. Also casting a beatiful reflection off of the tiled floor.

Editing

Yes, I used CS6 to edit out some telephone poles out of this window in the back, convert the image into black and white, and to sharpen the reflection on the floor as well.

In my camera bag

I just got a Canon 5D mark iii with a battery grip and a Canon 50mm f/1.2. The other gear that I have had for a while is my canon eos 70D with an 18-135mn lens and a 50mm f/1.4 lens.

Feedback

Look for big unique and antique buildings for the big windows and try to convince the owner to let you take a couple pictures over an hour or so. You would be surprise at how many people wouldn't mind.
