Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near the pinnacle of Mount Wellington (Kunanyi), which has an elevation of 1271m (4170ft), and is situated in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

Time

The image was captured mid-afternoon towards the end of the first month of winter (June). It was a blustery cold day, with the apparent temperature being -14°C (7°F).

Lighting

The mountain was surrounded in a shroud of clouds, creating an etheral, dreamlike ambience.

Equipment

This image is a HDR exposure and was captured using HDR Pro Camera on my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge mobile/cell phone.

Inspiration

I was taking my daughter up the mountain to see some snow and the television tower looked interesting in the clouds.

Editing

The image has been slightly tweeked using Aviary to saturate the colours by about 21percent.

In my camera bag

For serious photography I normally use a Sony Alpha 37, Konica-Minolta 7D and Konica-Minolta 5D, and my main lens is a Tamron 35-105mm f2.8, although I do have half a dozen prime and zoom lenses. That said, the quality out of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is pretty impressive for a phone.

Feedback

Advice to capture similar images would be to look for an interesting perspective and just explore places.
