Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture of my granddaughter in our back yard at our home in Florida.

Time

This was a late afternoon shot. Purely a candid moment.

Lighting

I compensated the white balance to the plus side in order to bring out the dogs features a little better. I did loose a little contrast in the subjects face by doing that.

Equipment

My camera was a Nikon D70s with a Nikon 35 - 70 lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I like to take candid shots that make people look natural. Surprise a person and they don't have time to put on a fake smile or pose in some strange manner.

Editing

This shot was originally a full length shot that I cropped in order to fill the frame with the subjects.

In my camera bag

I normally use either of my two Nikon cameras. One with a short lens and one with a long lens. I always have a dedicated external flash on hand because I don't like the pop up flash on the cameras

Feedback

On hot summer days, it is important to watch where the sun is. The use of the natural light is good but you can't have your subject looking directly into the sun or you will get squinty eyes.
