Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in a wildlife park. The animals are kept behind fences but live in areas that are big and much like their natural environment. This vulture was behind a fence but because I used a big aperture it was possible to make the fence completely disappear.

Time

his photo was taken in the end of the morning

Lighting

The natural light came from the back of the vulture that is what makes his head pop out even extra!

Equipment

I used a Nikon D7200, Sigma 70-200 2,8 APO DG HSM with a 2.0 converter to get the wildlife as close as possible. I love to get the animals close and make portraits so you can see same character and personality. Doesn't matter if it's a dog ar a vulture.

Inspiration

The animals inspire me! In daily life I am not a very patient person but when I'm working with animals I am able to take al the time I need. When you take time you can bond with an animal. In this case the vulture got curious of what I was doing and come over to give me a closer look.

Editing

There was not much post processing done on this image. Only a but of contrast and color adjustments. the background was vague already but I gave a little extra gaussian blur

In my camera bag

My Nikon D7200, Sigma 70-200 2,8, Sigma 18-50 2,8 and the 2,0 converter and my SB900 that I rarely use. Thats it! In my studio I work with a Elinchrom D-Lite RX One set.

Feedback

Take your time, go out alone, be patient and forget the world around you. It's only you and the animal.
