Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the 4th of July fireworks in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. This was sometime during the middle of the show.

Time

It was around 9:40pm when I shot this. We had clear skies and it was a beautiful night.

Lighting

I didn't use any flash or anything special. The lighting from the other fireworks provided enough natural lighting to work with.

Equipment

I actually took this on my phone, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. I had tried shooting some with my Nikon camera, but it would not get the results I wanted. With my phone, I turned off automatic mode and turned on professional mode and started taking pictures.

Inspiration

I absolutely love the beauty of fireworks. Each one is slightly different than the other. This specific type of firework is what I call a chandelier and it is one of my favorite ones.

Editing

I just adjusted the darkness of the background a little bit so that the firework color would display a little better.

In my camera bag

I always have my phone and my Nikon with me everywhere I go. This way whenever an opportunity arises, I've got the ones I need. I am looking into buying a tripod for the Nikon, and possibly something for my phone as well.

Feedback

When trying to capture fireworks, timing and patience is key. I like to practice these types of shots with anything I can find. If someone is shooting off fireworks for a random reason, I will pull off to the side so I can try to get more pictures.
