Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is from my back yard. The green background is the grass and other foliage.

Time

This was late morning.

Lighting

It is natural light with the sun to the right, lightly overcast.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D810 with a Nikkor 200-500 lens hand held. A pistol grip enables me to steady the camera by resting my elbow on the table next to me.

Inspiration

I sit in my backyard in the morning with my coffee and camera. It's my favorite part of the day since I retired.

Editing

I used Photoshop Elements for cropping and exposure correction, and Topaz 6 to remove noise.

In my camera bag

I don't have a lot of equipment, I am a hobbyist, not a pro. I have my camera body (now a Nikon D850), my Nikkor 24-120 and 200-500 lenses. I have a pistol grip to help balance the weight of the 200-500 while shooting hand held. I'm 72 and not as strong as I used to be. It's all about being outside and enjoying the birds.

Feedback

Have patience. If you have flowers and/or feeders they will come to you. Sit comfortably without a lot of movement, and they will get used to you being there. A butterfly bush also helps.
