Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo outside my house, in the front lawn. I was walking outside for some reason, and happened to notice them (thankfully before I stepped on them).

Time

This photo was taken about midday, the sun shining down straight above.

Lighting

As I have no studio, most of pictures are taken in the big studio with blue ceilings, and this one is no exception. As I recall, it was a sunny spring day and Mother Nature provided all the lighting for me.

Equipment

This image was captured using my iPhone 5S, and has no filter.

Inspiration

I love capturing shots of nature or everyday life, or really anything else I find appealing or interesting. These flowers are very special, and something I look forward to every year: the first flowers of spring! I love the winter, but there is something exciting about the melting of the ice and the emergence of new life from the thawing ground. These flowers are a sign of change and the cycle of life whose beauty we sometimes forget to appreciate.

Editing

I have no formal training in photography (besides an hour-long activity at the one summer camp I attended in the sixth grade), and so my photos rarely have anything done to them. When they do, it's usually an enhancement or filter from the Camera+ app I have on my phone, or sometimes an overlay I create using Microsoft Image Composer. This image in particular has nothing done to it (besides my signature in the corner). Nature at its simplest and finest.

In my camera bag

Honestly, I usually only have my phone. On occasion I use the family Nikon, but it has been malfunctioning as of late so I rarely use it. I would love to have better equipment, but I am content using what I have and don't have the budget to accommodate pricier options anyways.

Feedback

Keep yours eyes out for the beautiful and special things in life. While I do sometimes stage shots (and often think of things that would make a great shot), most often I photograph the things around me that pique my interest. Just observe, and capture things that you enjoy or find pleasing in some way or things that you think others would appreciate. Don't forget to enjoy them in the moment too though.
