Behind The Lens

Location

This was a spur of the moment photo taken outside the front door. The dragonfly whizzed by and landed on the pampas grass, I ran and retrieved my camera and three shots of him before he took off.

Time

The photo was taken (I think) at about 4 p.m.

Lighting

Not particularly. There wasn't time to worry about any lighting. I chose not to use the flash for fear of scaring him off.

Equipment

I used a Nikon L840 that I had recently purchased. This is my first Nikon and I'm well pleased with it. The way the wings appear in such detail was surprising.

Inspiration

It was the color of the dragonfly that inspired me to take this photo. The neon green was just eye catching.

Editing

I cropped the photo and minimally adjusted the detail. I do wish he's landed on a nicer blade of grass tho.

In my camera bag

I really don't have a bag. Most of what I do is walk around until I find something that interests me. Some of my walks are in and around the forests and swamps around here. My camera is normally always attached to the tripod and I always carry spare batteries in my cargo pocket.

Feedback

As I mentioned earlier, it was a spur of the moment photo, I really believed he'd be gone by the time I returned with my camera. There wasn't enough time to adjust any of the cameras presets, I just started taking the pictures before he flew away. What I took away from this was not to overthink it, go for the shot and have faith in your camera.
