Behind The Lens

Location

This was a shot taken in my studio at the end of a fitness shoot with model. We were done, and she asked if we could take a couple of images for a friend of hers who wanted a shot of her with his top hat. So, turned the lights back on and we ended up playing for another 30 minutes with the top hat. This was i believe the last shot of the day. I always try to end a shoot with a shot that makes me pause, look down at the camera back, and decide it isn't getting any better than this

Time

This was shot early in the evening on a Sunday night. She had traveled in from about an hours drive away from Anchorage, and we were just going to play and do some fitness images and catch up on everything going on since the last time we had shot together.

Lighting

This was at the end of the shoot....and i had turned off the strip light to my right, and finally turned off my AB800 in a 56" octabox, leaving just an AB800 in a strip box to the left to play with the shadows.

Equipment

i was using my old reliable, and rarely used by others, Olympus E-5 d-slr with my Zuiko 12-60 f2.8 -4 lens.....my old reliable go to set up for most of my shoots. My lighting setup consisted of AB-800 strobes in Paul Buff strip lights, and for my mainlight I had an AB-800 set up in the Paul Buff 56" octabox.

Inspiration

A quick request for a couple of shots of my girl with her friends top hat evolved into another mini photoshoot, ending up with this image here. It was entirely spur of the moment

Editing

This image was processed in Lightroom, then converted to black and white in Silver Efex, before being converted to jpg for this posting

In my camera bag

I don't tout a lot of eauipment. The bulk of my shooting is with the above camera and lens, although i just recently picked up the Zuiko 35-100 f2 lens to shoot with. I am either shooting with the above mentioned lighting set up in my studio, or with 1 or 2 of my AB-800 flashes outdoors with a beauty dish, and powered by a Vagabond VLX battery pack

Feedback

Probably more than anything, don't be afraid to try something different on the spur of the moment.....that is how this image came about in the first place
