Location
this photo was taken in my home studio in Abuja, Nigeria. i basically take all my indoor photographs there. I don't own a fancy studio, so my place serves as everything.Time
Originally, we had planned to shoot at about 7pm by a lake with trees in the background and a canoe. adding fog to the mix, but was unable to do so due to the rains. so we shot it indoors by 6pm.Lighting
i wanted this image to have a mysterious feel, creating a stranded scene drawing the viewer to the subject. so i decided to shoot using continous lighting setup on a grid to direct the light to the subject's face while using the light from the lantern to illuminate the rest of the image.Equipment
i shot this with a canon 7D using a 24-105mm lensInspiration
i had seen amazing pictures from greats like Von Wong,Stefan Gesell, etc and wanted to try out something using continuous light.Editing
post processing was done using lightroom for color correction and photoshop for final adjustments and retouch.Photo was shot in Raw.In my camera bag
what i carry majorly is my canon 7D and my trusty 50mm lens! i practically can not leave the house without a 50. i also own a kit lens (18-135mm) which i rarely use. i also carry a reflector and two speedlights with a portable softbox.Feedback
For this type of image, plenty of patience is required as you'd be experimenting with light. using different light sources can be tricky as you wouldn't want one light to overpower the other. The background should be taken into consideration to as not to be completely black.
