Behind The Lens
Location
Burj-Khalifa is the tallest man-made structure on earth. Showcasing the technical expertise and state-of-the-art infrastructure. This structure defines the skyline of Dubai, UAE. This photo was taken near Dubai Mall, Dubai, UAE.Time
This photo was taken around late afternoon as I was waiting for the sun to go down a little to cover a variation in the reflection across the structure of Burj-Khalifa. A range of illumination intensity can be easily observed in this photo, had I hurried a bit, it would have lead to overexposure in some areas because of the high intensity of sunrays.Lighting
When capturing a tall structure made of glass, it is very important to keep a check on the natural lights. High-intensity sunlight increases the chances of overexposure in the image if you are using high F-stop to capture minute details. Hence, I waited for the sunlight to go a little low so that I can have a range of illumination across the photo.Equipment
To take this shot I used a Canon EOS REBEL T3 camera with the kit lens 18-55 mm. It was a hand-held shot taken at an F-stop of f/3.5 with a high shutter speed of 1/2000 sec to prevent overexposure. I have used the minimum ISO of 100 to control the light and prevent overexposure of the image. I have not used any Flash to capture this shot.Inspiration
Burj Khalifa, the tallest man-made structure on earth, is an example of human imagination powered with high-end technology. Everyone remains awestruck witnessing the tallest structure. I was truly inspired by this mighty structure and wanted to capture it in its full glory. The light blue coloured glass windows give a unique magnificence to the structure. This inspired me to capture the structure from the bottom to the top.Editing
I don't use post-processing much in a photo as I try to set things within camera so as to have a good shot.In my camera bag
I generally have a Nikon DSLR D5300 with an 18-55mm kit lens along with a Tamron telephoto lens of 75-300mm. I usually prefer to carry a tripod for capturing light trails.Feedback
It is said, a great photo does not need a great equipment but a magical eye to frame the shot. I try to visualize the shot I want to take and then capture it. If you are trying to capture a glass structure, make sure about your camera settings and the direction of the sunlight. It is quite easy for a photograph to get overexposed, so it is better to use lowest possible ISO and a relatively low F-stop to capture the details without overexposing the image. It is advised to use a tripod to get a sharp image. While capturing a tall structure like Burj Khalifa, it is best to look for a suitable place wherefrom you get an unobstructed view of the whole structure. I have also tried to include some trees in the bottom to demonstrate the might of the structure.
