Behind The Lens
Location
This shot was made on the West Coast of the North Island of New Zealand near New Plymouth at the White Cliffs walkwayTime
This was my first time in that area. My friend and I decided to walk this beach the is only accessible from low to mid tides. The day was fine mostly, but cold being July. The weather was threatening rain with a lot of broken cloud. The shot was taken at about 11am in the morning.Lighting
As there was a lotto moving broken cloud the light was patchy giving a varying contrast. I like this sort of light as it gives a wonderful variation with no two shots taken close together will be identical.Equipment
Made with a D600 and the 24-85mm lenses at 24mm. I used a faster shutter speed as I had no tripod with me for this walk.Inspiration
The inspiration for this shot was the changing light and the composition lines of the cliffs refections and the edge of the surfEditing
Post processing was done with a Lightroom preset I use, setting the contrast and with Black and white levels. A little dodging and burning and finally de-saturating to give a slight sepia look.In my camera bag
Mostly I would carry my camera body with 2 lenses, a 24-70 zoom and a 70-200 zoom along with a Circular Polariser and spare batteries.Feedback
Someone once told me "good landscape photographers follow bad weather". I have always remembered this.
