Location
The photo was taken at a black sand beach in Iceland. The sand is ground up Basalt. The monoliths are Basalt as well.Time
1:57pm on April 12, 2016Lighting
The lighting was a little flat as the sun spent most of the day behind clouds. Though here it looks partly cloudy, the skies were threatening rain all day. The sun was about 20 degrees above the horizon to my right.Equipment
Nikon D7100. RAW. F/5.6, 1/1600, 200mm, ISO 125. Lens: AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED [II] Hand held, no flash.Inspiration
When I first landed in Iceland, my thought was, "how ugly." How wrong I was. Everywhere you look there is beauty. The black sand beach, was breathtaking in its simple tonality and great textures. A small showing of power by Mother Nature.Editing
I imported the RAW image into Aperture, did basic corrections and then brought the image to Macphun's Tonality to add to the atmosphere of the image. In my camera bag
I rarely use a bag as my camera is always with me. I use a dog collar attached to the neckstrap ring as a wrist strap. I hope one day to have the luxury of being able to pack a bag, search a location, find the spot for the photo and wait. One day.Feedback
Wish I could wax philosophical about it. Just keep your vision always tuned in. Be thoughtful. Try/Want to elevate those who will see your work. Enjoy yourself among the beauty of our planet.
