Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my living room and was a spur of the moment photo. I walked in and saw my cat laying like this in his favorite chair right by the window and just thought this was so adorable. So naturally I had to capture it.

Time

This photo was taken midday sometime. Unfortunately I do not remember exactly what time of day it was, but the light shining through the window gave this picture a nice soft glow and highlighted the side of the cats body that help alleviate the shadows from being indoors.

Lighting

The sheer curtain I have over the window helps the soften the light coming through it which helped to highlight the cats fur and really soften the light overall, which I feel helped to create a peaceful scene.

Equipment

I had actually shot this with my Samsung cell phone camera. It was on auto with no flash.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo because I felt happy when I saw how my cat was laying in the chair. I thought it was so adorable how he was sleeping and with the soft light streaming in through the window it really helped to set this peaceful scene.

Editing

Since this photo was taken with my cell phone on auto I did not do any post-processing since I felt the camera did a good job of capturing the scene.

In my camera bag

I have in my bag a Nikon D3300 with several lenses. The lenses I have are Nikkor 70-300mm, Nikkor 85mm macro lens, 35mm Nikkor lens, tripod, and 2 lenses that I don't use very much the 18-55 kit lens and a 10-22mm wide angle lens, but carry them anyway just in case.

Feedback

Keep your eyes open for opportunities and always have some kind of camera handy. This picture is a perfect example of a spur-of-the-moment photo. This picture wasn't planned and if I had not been able to get to a camera I would have missed it. Also keep an eye on lighting. This type of soft light really enhances a photo and when you notice a scene like this be quick to capture it. Sometimes trying to set this type of scene up doesn't work as well as if you capture it naturally. Also when trying to photograph animals sleeping, quiet and slow sometimes works better. Had I been noisy my cat would have woken up and ran away. I have tried several times afterwards to get pictures of my animals and have scared them awake or caused them to stop what they are doing.
