Location
This photo was taken at Manchester Airport in the UK. I don't normally like going out in the rain but on this occasion it was worth it!Time
This is perhaps the very best image I've managed to produce thus far in my 3 years as a self taught photographer. Most definitely one of those 'Right Place, Right Time' moments. Taken on February 21, 2015 at 13:00.Lighting
With the light conditions proving to be a tough obstacle to overcome in such bad weather, I tried to draw the viewer's eyes towards the spray effect of the water as it surrounded the aircraft.Equipment
This was shot on a canon 700D with a Sigma 150-500 lens attached. Shot handheld.Inspiration
Seeing several aircraft pass me by and noticing the effect of the water spray as they landed, I saw the world's largest passenger Airliner as the perfect opportunity to try and catch such a moment on camera. Just looking at this image again reminds me of the sheer power generated from those 4 turbofan Engines.Editing
I increased the vibrance and exposure levels due to the low light that day. With the help of Nik Software I was able to highlight the water effect and make it stand out. Not an easy task to say the least. In my camera bag
I always pack my two Canon's the 700D & the 600D. The 600D always has an 18-55mm lens attached and is solely used for those close up moments. The 700D (which I have named Carly) is a better camera overall and so I interchange a Sigma 150-500mm lens with a Canon 55-250mm lens depending on what zoom length is required.Feedback
Be prepared for disappointment. These types of images are very difficult to acquire the first time around. So practice practice & practice! Always keep in mind the speed the object is moving and set your camera manually for the right conditions. In this case with the low light, I opted to shoot in TV mode with a shutter speed of 1/200 at F9. I kept the iso at 100 however I would normally have increased this.
