Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my families property on the Stewart River in Two Harbors Minnesota. I have a native plant garden to the left and an old growth stand of Eastern White Pine to the right. This is where I spend most of my time and this picture does not do the beauty of this location justice.

Time

This image was taken at 8 pm right before dark.

Lighting

This was a longer exposure of 5 seconds with overcast skies.

Equipment

I used an Olympus OM-D E-M5 with an older Zuiko 12-54mm with a 4/3 adapter. In addition, I used circular polarizer, UV-C, and 8 stop neutral density filters.

Inspiration

This is where I grew up and have most of my favorite life memories. This land has made me who I am and has inspired my interest in outdoor wildlife and landscape photography.

Editing

I used photoshop elements 12. I cropped the image and slightly darkened highlights. In addition, I selected the upper portion of the image and darkened the highlights even further. Lastly I increased saturation in the light green deciduous trees in the upper portion of the image to make it pop and add depth.

In my camera bag

I carry a Olympus OM-D EM-5 body with a zuiko 35mm macro, Zuiko 12-54mm, and a Zuiko 40-150 mm.

Feedback

I like to call my method spray and pray. I take a large amount of pictures, all with different methods and hope I get one I like. I would say I accept 1 in 500 images.
