Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on the east side of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi on my vacation to the UAE.

Time

This is one of favorite images from the mosque. I was just about to leave the place for lunch but I decided to take a few shots while waiting for other people in my tour group. It was around midday.

Lighting

The Sun was right over head. The reflection in the pool was clear. The lighting was purely natural.

Equipment

This was shot on a Sony a6000 with its kit lens. I didn't have a tripod with me so I put my camera on the edge of the pool.

Inspiration

I was looking for some large architectural structures with reflection. The sheer size of this mosque and intricate details on the structure were so striking. The fuzzy image on the water just go perfectly well with that.

Editing

My first processing with this photos was in color but then I tried turning it into monochrome with the hope of bringing out the details on the columns in the cloister.

In my camera bag

There are normally my Sony a6000 with the kit lens for my landscape shots, two prime lenses for portraits and a macro lens.

Feedback

This place is heavily crowded with tourists. So if you are into architectures, it is virtually impossible to get clean shots of the place on most days and most hours. You either have to look up to avoid tourists' heads or wait for them to disperse. In my case, it was almost ten minutes before this moment.
