Location
This photo was taken in my neighbor's garden, in Terre Haute, IndianaTime
The photo was taken on an overcast day in the late morning, just after it had rained and the sun had started coming out again.Lighting
I saw this Iris and immediately knew it would make an excellent gift to enlarge and frame for my mother on Mother's Day.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3200 camera with a Nikkor AF-S 55-200 mm f 1.4-5.6 lensInspiration
The vibrant beauty of this Iris, standing alone and covered in raindrops against the green of the garden, inspired meEditing
I did a little in-camera white balance correction and cropped the photoIn my camera bag
Nikkor AF-S 55 - 200 mm lens, Nikkor AF-S 18-55 mm lens, Nikkor AF-S 40mm f 2.8 Macro lens, Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR II lens, Tamron 150-600 f/5-6.3 lens (mostly used for wildlife and bird photography), Nikon SB-400 TTL Shoe Mount Speedlight Flash, a Princeton Tec headlamp, a long lens rain cover, binoculars, sun shield hood, lens cleaning cloth, wireless shutter release and a tripod strapped to the bagFeedback
Waiting for that perfect moment to snap the photo is the hardest part. Once I spotted the Iris, I waited for the sun to start coming out. I wanted the sun to reflect onto and highlight the rain drops. The returning sunlight augmented the purple in the Iris and the green of the garden bokeh in the background, making the Iris really stand out.
