Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on a farm outside of Denton Texas.

Time

The was a late afternoon senior shoot. She was very eager for her "right" shots as she had done a lot of Pinterest posing that she wanted for her book.

Lighting

As always sun lighting is always from the back. The front of the subject lit with Canon flashes. On this day the sun is going in and out of the clouds.

Equipment

I use Canon equipment. This was taken with a Canon 5D MK4 and 70-200mm 2.8 Canon zoom lens. Canon Flashes were within 7 feet of the subject and placed at 45 degrees. I use a Manfrotto monopod to steady the long shots.

Inspiration

This is a senior shoot and many locations were captured around this farm setting. She is a beautiful young lady who really knew how to optimize her "look".

Editing

I do all of my post-processing with Adobe LR and PS. I used Portrait Pro to really enhance the facial features without overdoing them.

In my camera bag

For most outdoor family and portrait sessions I take my Canon 2.8 24-70mm and Canon 2.8 70-200 lenses. I use a CPL filter on each lens in bright conditions. The filter helps with making the tones more subtle. I have a Canon 5D MK4 and a Canon R6. I also do a lot of landscapes with the same equipment and utilize many more ND filters. My tripod is a Pro Media Gear graphite 72" with a Really Right Stuff large ballhead.

Feedback

When shooting people learn to sell your charisma. Your personality is the key to making your subject feel special. Whether it is a one on one, couple, or family, your personality will come through in the expressions you are seeking.
