Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Butterfly Pavillion in Colorado.

Time

It was done around 8 am to 9 am. When facility was open to photographers.

Lighting

The lighting was in a greenhouse like building where temperature and lighting is controlled for the health of the butterflies.

Equipment

There was no tripod as i did this hand held. Canon Rebel T3 with telephoto lens to 300 mm. Little unconventional but allowed me to reach these butterflies easier and accomplish obtaining groups of butterflies.

Inspiration

I went to take butterfly photos for a mother who lost her daughter to murder. This meant a lot to her as a healing from the aweful tragedy.

Editing

I did do some trim and enhanced the colors to help make their beauty "pop".

In my camera bag

I took only camera and lens on this trip. I did have a tripod and smaller lens but they stayed in the bag.

Feedback

I like hand held...gives me more freedom to catch the moment and butterflies move quickly. Did multiple high speed shots. Also the humidity was an issue for fogging up the lens. Definitely will plan for that in the future. I loved the telephoto lens to get close to those butterflies high in the air.
