Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the evening after a nice hike up Grandfather Trail in Western North Carolina.

Time

I don't remember the exact time but it was literally minutes before we lost the sun behind the mountains for the day.

Lighting

This is a great example of why the Great Smoky Mountains got the their name.

Equipment

I used a Canon 7d with 35mm lens.

Inspiration

Going to sleep with this as your view is breath taking. I would be selfish not to share this moment.

Editing

Very minor lightroom adjustment, other than that this is as close to it gets without being there.

In my camera bag

I am a Canon fan. I use a 7D and is still use my Rebel as a back up. I have several prime lenses ranging from 35mm to 85mm. My go to flash is the 530exii.

Feedback

The best advice for catching shots like this is get out there and put some miles on your hiking boots. There are a lot of areas you can drive to for similar shots but I think you will appreciate your image more know you put in some sweat to get it. Don't be afraid to spend the night on a mountain. O yeah, the bears are more scared of you then you are of them.
