An eerie view of the multi-level staircase in the Swannanoa Mansion in Afton, Virginia. The mansion, completed in 1912, was constructed of marble imported from Italy in the style of Italian Renaissance and Rome's Villa Medici. It was built by James H. Dooley, southern businessman and Civil War veteran, as a summer home for his beloved wife, Sallie May. The mansion, now in serious disrepair, is open to the public on a limited basis, and has had several investigations by psychic and paranormal groups due to numerous instances of spirits still inhabiting the old mansion.
