Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on vacation on an excursion with dolphins a few years back

Time

This is one of my favorites! It the daughter of a family that we were vacationing with and after our turn in the water with the dolphins I was then watching them have their turn and just started snapping pictures, this was one out of many photographs and I just loved the expression on her face.

Lighting

Natural light on a nice sunny day

Equipment

Canon PowerShot SX40 HS

Inspiration

I enjoy taking pictures so much and I am working on building a small business in photography, I have been told I have an eye for it and I am always the person with the camera everywhere I go. The vacation was the inspiration and who does not love dolphins!

Editing

Yes a little bit of exposure adjustment, and some cropping but that is about it.

In my camera bag

Because I am still a work in progress I carry a Canon Rebel T4i, Canon 70-200mm 2.8f is ii lens, Canon 18-135mm Lens and Canon 50mm 1.8f Lens, Reflector and external flash. I am upgrading to a Canon 5D MK III body within the next few months.

Feedback

Not that I am an expert but I would say if you can place yourself in a good position so that the sun is in the best possible spot before snapping and outdoor vacation pictures that would be a bonus although not every situation will give you that ability (post process can fix quite a few things though). Don't be afraid to snap tonnes of pictures especially when there is subject movement or where kids are involved as you can always delete the bad ones later, you may only get a few good shots out of 50 of the same subject but at least you get 1 good one. Try different angles, and if you bring a DSLR camera on vacation make sure you do some test shots on the camera settings you have set to make sure your exposure is good before you start shooting the subject. Hope that helps :)
