Location
This was taken poolside in the model's back yard in Orlando, FL. In a beautifully enclosed patio with brick and stone flooring, the furniture really helped set the scene for this shot and set.Time
It was in the later afternoon approximately 4pm as the sun wasn't too bright. It was a balmy 94 degrees with 85% humidity with a slight overcast sky. It is a necessity to shoot in the morning or late afternoon in Florida most of the time as the heat is just too much at times during peak.Lighting
It was all natural lighting, I prefer to use natural lighting when shooting outdoors if the conditions allow for it. Too many times photographers use artificial light in outdoor setups and the subject doesn't appear to match the ambient lighting all that well. I wish for the cleanest look possible and in this case the natural lighting served that purpose perfectly.Equipment
I used my SONY A77ii with my SAL18135 lens. I didn't use any stabilization devices for this shot and was actually laying down on the ground on my stomach using my elbows to prop me up to get the angles that I was looking for.Inspiration
This shoot was intended as a bikini inspired shoot but after having spoken with the model about adding some flair to the shoot in general one of the ideas that I came up with was the look of a mafia boss' wife sipping a martini poolside having a good time. We felt that the straight bikini model idea lacked some uniqueness and went with a few different looks during this shoot.Editing
I don't believe in too much post work as it generally takes away from the image and a lot of the time is overdone. So other than some minor skin touch-ups, a little light correction and my watermark the image is 95% what I saw through the viewfinder. In my camera bag
I usually have 2-3 other lenses besides my SAL18135, including a Tamron 70-300mm and a Sigma 18-250mm. Depending on location or desired subject I have telephoto lenses as well as two primes. I have a SONY external flash, extra cards and batteries/chargers. Usually I will have my laptop with me and a few flash drives so I can give my clients an immediate result if requested.Feedback
Shooting in Florida is great year-round, other than some oppressive heat and humidity it generally is amazing. It is an easy shot to replicate if under similar lighting conditions, the hardest part was bringing up the background lighting without washing out the foreground to give the whited out look in the background. I accomplished this by slower shutter speed and slightly more open aperture.
