Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my studio. The woman being a friend of mine wanted some maternity shots done and i offered.

Time

I took this around 10 am with the light still coming in from the window behind the subject, focusing was a bit of a chellenge but worth the effort.

Lighting

whilst most of the light came from the window i still needed to cast some light on the subject, for that i used my florecent lighting kit, Intefit F5 to be exact.

Equipment

This was taken on a canon 5D mk1, with a sigma 24-70mm 2.8,

Inspiration

i wanted the shot to show the intamate and nurturing bond between mother and baby, i found eyes down worked best in this shot and the pose overall was one she found natural and comfortable to be in for long periods.

Editing

the bulk of the post processing in this shot was to turn the clarity down in order to soffen the image, i also played with the white balance a bit.

In my camera bag

I always pack extra cards and never head out without at least 2 spare batteries, my 24-70mm is almost perminantley attached to my camera. one speedlight and an led panel make up my perminent kit along with my tripod and remote.

Feedback

I think the biggest tip i can give to anyone shooting people is to make them relaxed. this goes double if they are not models and is a key factor in shooting nude. Dont take yourself to seriously and have a joke. Never be affraid to experiment with things like lighting or using multiple light sorcess. Remember rules are there to be broken and most importantly have fun.
