Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Crescent City, California on a random road trip.

Time

This photo was taken at around 11am. The tide had just gone out, and the sand had this beautiful design. I just couldn’t resist!

Lighting

The sun was not directly overhead, but it was climbing there. The way it lit up the designs from the flow of the water was just perfect!

Equipment

I used my Canon Eos, with a 18-45mm lens, and knelt down on one knee. No flash or any other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I wanted to take photos of something that was out of my element. I had photographed people for so long, I wanted to switch it up. I decided that I wanted to photograph anything that caught my eye.

Editing

I did. I turned the photo to greyscale, sharpened the image for harsher lines in the sand, and vignetted the edges so the main focus was the center of the photo.

In my camera bag

I usually just have my camera and my lenses. While taking landscapes, I try to keep it as natural looking as possible.

Feedback

Always look at the details. With nature, it’s always moving. So don’t second guess yourself. If you see it, photograph it. Chances are it’s the only time you have to get that perfect set up.
