Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Boone, North Carolina in the mountains.

Time

Surprisingly, this was taken around noon in the spring. It was misty and drizzling though, which added to the mysterious atmosphere.

Lighting

There wasn't any natural sunlight in the scene at that time, and I didn't have any extraneous equipment, so I just relied on the mist and the white fence to create an enticing composition.

Equipment

I actually only used my iPhone 6, with no other equipment in this instance.

Inspiration

I was hiking in the mountains with my family, and didn't expect to take any good pictures with such low visibility, but we came across this mansion with a white fence that stretched for who knows how long and I just had to capture it.

Editing

No, not really. I just took it with, tinkered with the shadows and light, and uploaded!

In my camera bag

I usually have my Panasonic LUMIX and the components it requires and features. I'm only a high school amateur photographer, so I am working my way up into more advanced photography equipment.

Feedback

It's helpful to find the right angle, especially when working with long stretches of rails, fences, etc. I positioned my camera in such a way that makes the white fence look as if it's leading somewhere distant, but it trails off and you can't see where it ends. You might want to experiment with vertical and horizontal positioning depending on the scene you have before you. Also, the mist and thick fog really highlighted the enigmatic ambience of the piece, so choosing the day and time in accordance to the weather could really help structure your composition.
