Location
This photo was taken at Serpentine Falls in Western Australia. It was winter so there were not to many people around and nobody swimmingTime
This was taken late afternoon, I remember the park had only one hour left open but I had to pay full price to get in. It was worth it though as I had the place practically to myself. This was the second attempt I had made to do long shutter speeds with water. I was quite pleased with the results.Lighting
The light was bright so I used an ND filter, I could not tell you how many stops because I just kept fiddling with it until it looked right.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 700D (my first real camera), a ND filter and a tripod, the lens I used was probably not the right lens as it was a 100mm Macro Lens but hey it worked.Inspiration
It was actually the only waterfall I knew close to where I lived. I had just been talking to a friend who takes magnificent shots of the milky way at the same location (My next project). I thought it would be a good way to practice long exposures. I remember visiting the falls with my family as a child and thought it would be nice to see the changes that had occurred over the years. I also discovered a lovely cafe at the Dam down the road so I will be going back again.Editing
I did a little cropping on this shot but that was really all.In my camera bag
Normally I carry my Cannon EOS 700D my 100mm Macro Lens, a 50mm Lens and a tripod. I also have my ND filter.Feedback
My advice is: If at first you don't succeed try and try again. It took about 20 to 30 shots to just get the filter right but after some perseverance I was really happy with the shot. Even if you don't get the shot you want on the day look at it like this: You have just had a day out in a lovely location, learnt a few things about your camera and light and now know what you need to research before you go out again, not to mention you have had some sun and exercise.
