Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my apartment in Belgium. We were searching for a good spot with Elsa Facchin this incredible model because we wanted something very sweet with space around her. I'm more close-up but she convinced me to try something more aerial. And... Yes she was wright.

Time

It was about 14.00 on a rainy day so no opportunity to go outside which is often the case in Belgium unfortunately. I think this picture is the best-one of the series. The first reason is because there is no need to hide something from the model, i hate photos with little hearts on the chest because of social medias restrictions. The second reason is the move in her hair which gave me the idea of the name. It gives a wild side even if she has a very sweet attitude. There is a hairdryer between her legs on a pile of books. With a bit of luck the air made the magic.

Lighting

The left part of the photo (the green zone) is a rectangle mirror i hold glued to the lens. The white lines are the reflection of the curtains on the right. And if you look closely you can also see a reflection of her hair in it.

Equipment

Equipment used : Nikon D800E with a 24-70 2.8 lens, no flash, light coming from the three windows patio on the right.

Inspiration

It was the idea of the model, she wanted to try something with her new skirt... I said ok but only with the skirt. Her pale skin is just amazing and her red hair are a dream for a photographer.

Editing

Just a few. I like to boost contrast with a black and white layer soft light mode 50% added on the original one. Of course we loose colors so more vibrance and that it. Very simple.

In my camera bag

Well my D800E if i have to shoot fast for commercials. I also have an analog Nikon FE and i work with Portra400, Cinestill films of Fuji Velvia. I also have a Polaroid SX70. I really try to go back to basics, to find textures and patines. I'm tired with "perfect" photos with more details and pixels. Sometimes i shoot with my D800E and an old 50mm1.4 on it. It's not a electronic lens which means the case does not recognize it. If i open to 1.4, the case think the lens open to 0.0...

Feedback

Not really, have fun guys and ladies, magic comes when you try new things!
