Location
this work has been shot in Candalla falls, a very small village in Camaiore, Italy. it's a lovely spot hidden in green and very close to the seaside.Time
the moment before the shooting was very thrilling. i involved a friend to help me with setup and lightning and we left Lucca (our base) at 600am and were gifted by an astonishing dawn. i always remember with a smile this shoot even because the train that took judit to our appointment was on time, which is pretty rare xDLighting
i wanted my pictures to be full of light in order to represent harmony with (and of) nature so i used an sb 900 speedlight and some reflecting silver panelsEquipment
i took this shoot with my nikon d600 and the 24-70MM 2.8 lens. i used a water resistant cover cause i knew i could fall in water.. and actually did :)Inspiration
this small spot really inspired me the first time i saw it. i started thinking how to use this wonderful gift from nature. i wanted to make some fine art nudes full of light and peace. while i was thinking of the poses and the mood i met Judith (the girl in the portrait), and talking with her things came out naturally and organised the shooting in just three daysEditing
the postproduction mainly focused on this skin of the model using the frequency separation tecnique and some dodge and burn. since i shoot to the maximum aperture (2.8) the background was nicely blurred in raw file. i adjusted some contrast lightning some dark shadows in the woods. finally i converted to bwIn my camera bag
i couldn't live without my 24/70 mm 2.8 lens! i absolutely adore it! i also always pack at least one speedlight with spare batteries and portable light modificators. oh yes, some adhesive tape is always a good companion to take with you!Feedback
i think knowing very well the spot were you are going to shoot is crucial. go there before the shooting, walk around, try poses (yes, you may look a bit idiot, especially if u're a 40yo man simulating a muse pose lol, but trust me it will help!). look where the sun turns and take notes of the shadow spots, so u can also shoot at lunchtime. it is not necessary to have an assistant just be sure to have a towel close to the model
